Every Poké Ball In Pokémon Legends: Arceus (& How To Get Them) (2023)

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is finally out, and trainers are able to venture into the ancient Hisui region and befriend Pokémon with the help of Poké Balls. While Poké Balls have been one of the most important aspects of the Pokémon franchise since its inception, they had only just been invented before the events of Pokémon Legends: Arceus in the Pokémon universe, making them a novel tool for the Galaxy Expedition Team’s adventures and missions. While some of the Poké Balls available in the revolutionary new Pokémon game are familiar classics from the franchise, like standard Poké Balls and Great Balls, others are unique to Pokémon Legends: Arceus and are designed to complement the game’s exciting new mechanics.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Fans have had theories about what's really inside a Poké Ball since the earliest days of the franchise, but Pokémon Legends: Arceus finally provides somewhat of an explanation about how the strange devices actually work. After Professor Laventon shows players how to use a Poké Ball, he quickly realizes that the player character isn’t familiar with these new inventions and explains that Pokémon have the ability to shrink themselves to minuscule sizes. Throwing a Poké Ball at a Pokémon can trigger their shrinking ability, and while his explanation may leave players with more questions about this strange ability than they had before, it does provide an official answer to the age-old question about how Poké Balls capture and store Pokémon in the franchise.

Since Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place before Poké Balls were mass-produced and sold to trainers in Poké Marts, players can craft their own at a workbench by using materials they pick up on their expeditions. Players can also craft on the go using a Crafting Kit, but they’ll only be able to use items in their inventory to craft. There are nine different types of Poké Balls that players can unlock, and rather than purchasing their crafting recipes, players can earn them by leveling up their Star Rank in the Survey Corps. Each Star Rank that a player gains will unlock a new Poké Ball recipe, and players will also receive a handful of that type of Poké Ball as an additional reward. Most other crafting recipes can be bought from the Craftworks in Jubilife Village or earned by completing various missions throughout Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

The standard Poké Ball is one that any Pokémon player is familiar with, and despite the aesthetic differences between modern Poké Balls and their ancient Hisuian variant, their function is almost exactly the same. Standard Poké Balls are the easiest to craft but don’t provide any additional benefits when catching Pokémon in Legends: Arceus. Their crafting recipe is given to players by Captain Cyllene during the Galaxy Team’s Entry Trial Mission, allowing players to start crafting them as soon as they’re able to gather the right materials.

Heavy Balls

As their name suggests, Heavy Balls have a lot more weight to them than standard Poké Balls and, as a result, they don’t fly as high or far when thrown. However, they’re more effective when catching unsuspecting Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, increasing the chances of a successful catch when players carefully sneak up on the Pokémon first. The recipe for crafting Heavy Balls is unlocked once players reach First Star Rank with the Survey Corps.

Feather Balls

Feather Balls fly higher and faster than regular Poké Balls, making them particularly useful when catching Flying-Type Pokémon and other Pokémon who are quick to run once they spot the player approaching. Like Heavy Balls, they can give players an advantage when catching different types of Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ free-roaming Pokémon, requiring players to implement some strategy when choosing which Poké Ball to throw. The Feather Ball crafting recipe is unlocked once players reach Second Star Rank.

Great Balls

Great Balls are another familiar Poké Ball that have been in the Pokémon franchise since the beginning and gives players a slightly greater chance of catching a Pokémon than a regular Poké Ball in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Since they’re a higher quality Poké Ball, they require some extra materials to craft, and players will have to manage their resources by crafting the Poké Balls they need on their expeditions. Players can unlock the crafting recipe for Great Balls once they reach Third Star Rank.

Leaden Balls

Like the Great Ball, the Leaden Ball is Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ upgrade to the Heavy Ball and grants players a higher chance of capturing a Pokémon caught unaware. The Leaden Ball is also too heavy to fly very far when thrown, but it can help players catch Pokémon they’ve managed to sneak up on. The Leaden Ball crafting recipe is unlocked at Fourth Star Rank.

Wing Balls

The Wing Ball is the upgraded form of the Feather Ball, giving Pokémon Legends: Arceus players an even greater advantage when used to catch fast or flying Pokémon in the wild. Thanks to their ability to quickly cut through the air, players have a better chance of capturing fleeing Pokémon before they’re able to escape. The crafting recipe for Wing Balls is unlocked once players have made it to Fifth Star Rank.

Ultra Balls

The Ultra Ball is another classic Poké Ball that has been around since the earliest days of Pokémon, and it’s one of the best Poké Balls available in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Ultra Balls have a much higher catch rate than a regular Poké Ball or Great Ball, making it easier for players to capture any Pokémon they throw them at. However, while Ultra Balls are one of the most effective Poké Balls, they also require almost twice as many materials to craft, and players will have to use their resources wisely when preparing for expeditions to ensure they have a good stock of Poké Balls at all times. The Ultra Ball crafting recipe is unlocked at Sixth Star Rank.

Gigaton Balls

The Gigaton Ball is the upgraded form of the Heavy and Leaden Balls and, like the Ultra Ball, it gives players a much higher chance of successfully capturing a Pokémon than the previous versions. Gigaton Balls weigh a ton, earning them a very befitting name, and while they won’t go very far when thrown, they make it easy to catch Pokémon that players have snuck up on. Players can unlock the Gigaton Ball crafting recipe by reaching Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Seventh Star Rank.

Jet Balls

The last Poké Ball crafting recipe that Pokémon Legends: Arceus players can unlock is the recipe for the Jet Ball, which is unlocked at Eighth Star Rank. The Jet Ball is the fully upgraded version of the Feather Ball, increasing players’ chances of catching a fleeing or flying Pokémon by an even greater margin than the Wing Ball. Like the Ultra Balls and Gigaton Balls, Jet Balls require more resources to craft, but can give players an advantage that makes them worth grinding for the extra Tumblestones.
